With the mid week warm-up, look for flows to be on the rise and opening up some and going off color about thru the mid/end of week. The canal season for navigation ended October 13th and some sections are being lowered. Not a dozen hook ups for a morning effort, but at least a few that might include a couple steelhead or a couple browns. Captain Mikes recommendation is using mainly a flasher fly bite yellow flashers, blue green flies. So far we are probably looking at some fish from earlier higher water and new fish trickling in on medium-ish flows instead of one bigger batch of fish on a blow out event. There are miles of water for fish to be dropping back from compared to about only a short mile of Oak water. Another unseasonably warm day today with chance of showers tonight. As a few post holiday reports come in it sounds like guys have had some better steelhead action. Temps are on the mild side, dropping down some at night and thru today and over the next part of the week we are getting some melt off which should be good for maintenance. At least in the turbine channel we can look for some of those fish that wont be taking an overland route, to drop back downstream filling in the fast water gravel sections. We ended the day with a few silver fish and a bunch of lake trout. Thanks to a return to cold temps and snowy weather, trib flows retreated for the beginning part of this week. We went past 300 but found the 250-300 was better. The release to that point was a great success! Lake effect rain dumped three inches of rain around the Port Bay area over the weekend. There were salmon porpoising around the green can and the red can. Still no real cool down afoot and the forecast ahead thru the weekend and maybe some of next week looks warm. Starting this weekend, they will be fishing at the Bar chasing Kings then return to the Oak around Memorial Day as the Kings migrate east.
